Customer Review: 7.25 qt. size is just right for a big pot of Bolognese.

There's nothing more to be said about the all-around fabulousness of Le Creuset French (or Dutch) ovens. They're my favorite for making long-cooking sauces, stews, pot roasts, etc. Nothing better IMO.
I've been using Le Creuset since 1979, but I never had one larger than the 4.5 quart French oven, which, over the years, grew to seem crowded, especially when I made Bolognese. So when I found a 7.25 quart in Indigo (a color I've always wanted, but which is now seriously OOP) last month on eBay, I jumped on it.
So, today the pot is 2/3 full (just what you want), after I put one chopped onion, a couple of carrots and stalks of celery, four pounds of meat (1/2 lb. diced pancetta, 2 lb. ground chuck, 1 lb. ground pork, 1 lb. ground 7% fat turkey--do not use "no fat" turkey), a cup of chicken stock (I don't drink, so I substitute chicken stock for wine), a cup of heavy cream, and two cans of tomatoes. I'm bringing it to a boil now, then I'll reduce it for several hours.
Long story short, if you're pondering which size to buy, go large. Get the 7.25 quart size, or at least the 5.5. I wish I'd bought this size years ago. All this eventual deliciousness, and literally no splatter. As Ina would say, how bad could that be?
